2020 Gift Guide

happy merry

Presented below, in no particular order, is the Cup of Ambition 2020 Gift Guide (that nobody asked for)! I pulled together some ideas featuring some of my favorite small businesses, most of which are owned by women of color. The items on this list are sure to please and you’ll feel good about supporting women entrepreneurs. That’s what they call a win-win. Happy gifting, y’all!

xoxo,

Liz

1) Donate to a food bank or mutual aid group in the name of family and friends. Especially this year, as our country is ravaged by a pandemic, so many people are suffering food shortages. If you have a bounty on your plate, consider helping those who don’t. Donate here and here and here.

Kitchen Scale

2) A kitchen scale. See above for all the reasons why you should be baking with a kitchen scale. You can easily find a scale for about $20 (or less!), so it makes a great gift for the baker in your life, whether they’re a beginner or know their way around kitchen. If you really want to splurge, Wirecutter has a guide of the best scales of 2020.

Legally Set

3) Legal templates. Okay, this one is a little niche, but also super important! If you are a food blogger or influencer, make sure your legal house is in order. Legally Set offers a bunch of different template agreements — including a social media marketing agreement, photo editor contract, nondisclosure agreement, etc. — for less than an attorney’s hourly rate.

Poppi Kit Baking Kit

4) Poppi Kit baking kit. I love sending baking kits as gifts - it’s such a fun activity to do virtually, so you can share the love of baking from coast to coast. I especially love Poppi Kit because their products are super kid-friendly and creative. And if you just want to send a friend a little note to say you miss their face, the mug hug is a great option at $10.

Bread Sweatshirt Dus Doughs

5) Bread sweatshirt. Proclaim your love of carbs with this sweater from the super talented sourdough queen, Erica Du of Dus Doughs. I own this sweater and can personally vouch for the quality. It’s super super soft and comfy; I may have worn it for three days straight.

Wolf House Shop

6) Products from The Wolf House Shop. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with my hairdresser, Sunshine. She’s the only person who has cut my hair in eight years — from pixie cut to platinum blonde — she’s SO talented. Sunshine recently opened up an online shop featuring a curated selection of clean beauty products sourced exclusively from Black-owned businesses. Treat your hair to a pumpkin mint mask (yum!) or a cashmere and caviar mask (the opulence!).

Dumpster Fire Cookie Cutter Cookie Smut

7) Cookie Smut cookie cutters. For the saucy baker in your life, Cookie Smut’s cookie cutters will make you chuckle and sometimes blush. I’m personally obsessed with the dumpster fire cookie cutter - how better to capture our collective 2020 MOOD?

8) Nutrition Counseling. Investing in your own health and well-being should be a priority for all of us, so consider this an act of self-care and gift yourself some time with Woman Up Wellness. Callie offers a no-nonsense approach to health and nutrition that’s backed by science (she has a lot of letters behind her name!) - it’s money well spent

Kids Quilt Jacket Blank Supply

9) Kid’s quilt jacket. For the chic, fashion-forward kid in your life, these one-of-a-kind quilt jackets are heirloom pieces that are lovingly made by hand and can be handed down for generations. You can also get a matching teddy! Excuse me while I die of cuteness overload.

Erica Reade Beach Lovers.jpg

10) 2021 Calendar. Because we’re ALL ready to move on from 2020. This 2021 calendar features beautiful photography by Erica Reade; each month is a different pair of lovers on the beach - a beautiful tribute to the magic that happens in NYC during our hot summer days.

Sprinkle Robot

11) SPRINKLES!!! Need I say more? Okay fine, not just any sprinkles, but the amazing royal icing transfers from Sprinkle Robot. The holiday collection is currently up and you don’t want to miss out on these adorable snowmen! The attention to detail is unbelievable.

Topo Chico Bakery Lady Art Print

12) Art for a cause. The Bakery Lady (aka Chelsea) has raised over $10,000 to support those in the food industry most impacted by the pandemic by selling food-centric prints that you’ll definitely want to hang on your own wall! My personal favorites are the King Arthur Flour print and the Topo Chico print. Can’t wait for Chelsea to open up her own shop next year!

Zodiac Whiskey Glasses Love & Victory

13) Love & Victory glasses. Everyone needs a pair of fancy glasses, so be sure to snag yours from Love & Victory’s excellent barware collection. I own a set of the astrology glasses (Taurus for me; Gemini for my husband). There are also a lot of excellent stocking stuffer gifts to choose from too.

ina_garten_Illuminidol_Celebrity_Prayer_Candle_grande

14) Prayer candle. Because we need to pray to all that is holy in order to get through the rest of 2020! I love the Ina Garten and Dolly Parton candles from Illuminidol (plus their Instagram is a great follow - some of the hate mail they get is truly hilarious). I also have to include this Ina Garten candle, which features her making the infamous GIANT Cosmopolitan cocktail, and she’s INSIDE a Cosmopolitan - I can’t!
